Michelle sighed and looked away from the mirror, nothing now was going to make any difference to her, she looked as good as she would get. Her pink dress looked beautiful with the matching necklace and earrings.

"Shoes!" She muttered and cursed, looking under her bed, nothing. Dashing downstairs she heard a car pull up and she stopped, peeping out from behind the curtain as someone got out of a car and started walking towards the house. "Damn, damn, damn!" Rushing to the coat cupboard she looked inside and, lo and behold, there were her errant shoes, She pushed them onto her feet just as the doorbell rang. Taking two deep breaths, Michelle straightened her dress and wondered if she was doing the right thing. She went to open the door, knowing it was too late to back out of this blind date now, Aimee'd have a lot to answer for if this was a disaster.

"Look, it's just for a night," Aimee had said "If you don't like the guy then you don't have to meet him again." She had looked at Michelle, all puppy dog eyes and helpful thoughts.

"I dunno," Michelle had replied thoughtfully "I am a bit wary of this whole thing." Aimee smiled and slapped her softly on the back.

"I have known the guy for ages, 'Elle, he is fine, he won't hurt you and you will love him" At this she gave a wink.

And so here she was, opening the door to a stranger, unsure of whether this was the right thing to do or not.

In front of her was a vision, hair brushed and lightly spiked . . . . was that mascara around those blue eyes? . . . . . And lipstick? . . . Nail polish? She looked up once more amazed, what should have been a bizarre experience for her, seemed as natural as herself wearing makeup. That and he looked stunning, his blue jacket and trousers went perfectly and he wore black lightly heeled shoes, though they seemed to suit him as well.

"Hi, I'm Eddie," He said in a lightly accented voice, "I take it you are Michelle?" He smiled and held out laden hands to her, one holding a bouquet of pink carnations and the other holding a box of chocolates. Michelle's hand flew to her mouth as she blushed.

"Thank you," She said to him, taking them and sniffing the flowers "They are beautiful, how did you know I love carnations?" Then she grinned, Aimee!

Placing the flowers and chocolates in a safe place she turned to get her coat, Eddie helping her on with it and then walking out to the car. On the drive into town they talked about where they had first met Aimee and exchanged embarrassing stories.

At the restaurant, they sat down to a table for two, waiting for their food to arrive. Eddie making her laugh with jokes and funny stories about his travels and his life. When the food and wine came, Eddie raised a glass towards Michelle.

"To the most beautiful woman in the restaurant." He said, taking her hand in his and kissing it gently, Michelle blushed but raised her glass and said.

"To the most charming man in the restaurant, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world tonight!"

They grinned as a waiter brought their food and they started eating, talking quietly between bites and laughing softly in the candlelight.

Driving back to Michelle's place they fell silent, the odd smile to each other the only communication between them. Stopping the car, Eddie walked her to her door. For a while they stopped, looking up at the stars, cuddled together for warmth in the cold night air.

"I really enjoyed tonight, Eddie." Michelle said happily, one hand curled around his. Eddie smiled at her.

"I enjoyed it too, but it wouldn't be complete without one thing" Michelle looked curious. "This"

Pulling Michelle gently towards him, he wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her, his lips first brushing hers and then pressing more firmly onto her lips. Michelle's arms wrapped themselves around him, one going up to caress his hair. Slowly they parted, smiles on both their faces as they looked at each other tenderly. Michelle caressed his cheek with hers and kissed him lightly on the ear.

"Would you like a coffee?" She asked him, a gleam of mischief in her eyes. Eddie looked at her and grinned as he followed her into the house, this perfect date wasn't over by far!
