Fashion Statement
By Amy Shechtman
Eddie stood under the hot lights in
the long gown, he was not happy. "For fucks sake, how much longer?"
He asked his manager, who was standing a few feet away. "Take it easy Eddie
the
photographers almost ready. You want a drink or something?" "I
could use a smoke" he said. "Itll have to wait a mo, "
his manager said as the photographer walked into the room with his cameras and
started to set up. He smiled apologetically. "Sorry Eddie, I had to fix
something with the flash, were all set now." "Good, these boots
are killing me" Eddie said.
He stood with his hand on his hip, flashing thigh through the hip-high slit of the Gaultier dress he had on. He put his chin down and gave the photographer a sultry look. "Great Eddie keep going man this is good". Eddie moved his hands in various positions, under his chin, on his waist, shifting the weight to his other leg, turning and looking back at the camera, until the photographer said, OK Eddie, I have enough we can wrap it."
Eddie heaved a big sigh and gratefully accepted the cigarette his manager offered him. He inhaled, and started walking toward the dressing room. "Whats next?" he called over his shoulder. His manager yelled into the room "interview on public radio, lunch with the HBO people, then youre free." "Cool" Eddie said. He sat down in the dressing room and unzipped his boots, rubbing his feet, and rolling down the stockings underneath his long, black velvet gown.
"Theyre sending over a woman to take you to the radio station, I have to get back to the office and work on some contract for the lunch meetings " "OK mate, Ill see you at lunch then". Eddies manager walked out the door, and out to the elevator, missing the woman by a split second as he stepped into the elevator and she stepped out of the one next to it. She looked down nervously, and smoothed her dress down, purchased specially for this occasion. She was a big fan of Eddies, and didnt want to appear nervous to him, afraid hed rip her to shreds like he did with the unfortunate hecklers in his audiences.
She walked down the hall, almost tripping on her new high heel pumps smiling to herself thinking, "not even a bloke in a dress and still cant walk". She opened the door to the photographers studio, there was no one there. She called out "hello?" but did not get a response. She heard music playing from a dressing room and she went and knocked on the door. The music was loud, so she knocked louder, then opened the door a bit and said "hello?" again. She peeked her head in, and there he was, standing in front of a rack of dresses, wearing nothing but a pair of blue jockey shorts and a half-unbuttoned white collared shirt. "Oh Im so sorry" she said as she closed the door and went back into the studio. Her face was as red as a cherry Lifesaver. She wanted to run right out the door but was too afraid shed fall on her ass.
Eddie came out of the dressing room, tucking his shirt into a pair of very tight trousers, "gave me a bit of a scare there" he said, but he was smiling. She apologized again. "Oh God Im so sorry" she said. "Salright love, couldve been worse." He sat down in a chair, grabbed a pair of high heel black leather boots and began to tug them onto his feet. She decided shed better get down to business. He was looking right at her. "Ive got a car downstairs Eddie, the interviews at the radio station, its not to far." "OK then, Im ready, lets get going." He opened the door for her and she walked out in front of him, trying hard not to hang onto the wall for dear life. They got into the elevator together, wordlessly, until she said "how was the photo shoot?". And he replied "Gorgeous dress. But those Versace boots were a killer my back and necks killing me, going to need a trip to the osteo." He said rubbing his neck. She resisted the urge to quote the chiropractor bit from his act.
The elevator landed in the lobby and they got out and walked across the tile floor, both of their sets of shoes clicking on the marble. Eddie smiled, "we sound like percussion section". She looked up at him, he was actually a nice guy! They went into the street and got into the waiting car. She made sure the driver knew where they were going, and then settled back in the seat. Eddie was still rubbing his neck. Before she knew what she was saying she blurted out "would you like me to massage that a bit? Im fairly good at that kind of thing." Eddie looked up at her his blue eyes flashing. "Yeah? Well ok give it a go". She leaned over to him, slipped her hands underneath the collar of his shirt and began massaging his neck and shoulders. Gently at first and then as his muscles relaxed, more firmly. He hung his head down, and said "you are good at this " and smiled. He put one hand on her leg for balance and the car hit a pothole and she fell forward and he caught her and all of a sudden she was lying across his lap.
"I was trying so hard not to fall down in these heels and now I fall down sitting in a car!" she said, trying to laugh away her embarrassment. Eddie cradled her head in his hands and tried to help her regain her balance. As she sat up her face came very close to his, and she figured, well it had gone this far, and she kissed him on the lips. He started for a minute, then kissed her back, and kissed her, and kissed her. Her arms went around his neck as he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her close.
She was sitting on his lap and her hands began to wander down his shoulders to his sides, and then to his legs, while he caressed her hair, her face and her neck, still kissing her. She heard a voice say, "were here maam" and realized they were in front of the radio station. She pulled back briefly to look at her watch, Eddie continued kissing her cheek, neck and earlobes. They still had about ½ hour until the interview. She turned to the driver and she said "once around the park please" as she pushed the button that rolled up the tinted separating window. She turned back to Eddie and said "do you mind?" and smiled. He grinned back at her and replied "Mind? Not in the least love I think Im coming down with some laryngitis might miss that interview altogether" and he licked her cheek playfully. She sighed and nestled herself in his arms as the car took off toward the park.
